Ignite your future

We’re looking for the Indigenous students who will play a role in building Australia’s future economy.

Indigenous students from all over Australia are being invited to apply for the Origin Foundation Grant King Indigenous Scholarships, which will provide two students each year with a full residential scholarship to undertake a degree in Engineering or Science at the University of New South Wales.

“The Chief Scientist, and others, have made it clear that Australia’s future prosperity will be reliant on developing a clever economy based on science, technology, engineering and maths,” said Sean Barrett, Head of Origin’s Foundation. “There is no reason Indigenous Australians should not play a role in that.”

Most of Australia’s industries will be subject to technology-driven disruption, so STEM skills will become the foundations of future workplaces. By building these skills in young people, we foster different ways of thinking that set them up for future success.

We chose UNSW for these scholarships because of its exceptional track record supporting Indigenous students. Through its Indigenous Programs Unit, Nura Gili, the university provides entry pathways for Indigenous students in all faculties and programs, and supports them throughout their studies.

From 2021, there will be a total of eight undergraduates studying with the support of the program each year. Sean says the scholarships will help generations of students aspiring to careers in a STEM field to realise their dreams.
